Learn the skill, change the world. Nine out 10 people say that they want to be cared for at home at the end of life, yet more than half are in institutions or nursing homes. We can change that by learning the skill to care for our neighbors, friends and family at end of life at home! An End of Life Doula cares for people at end of life by meeting their physical, emotional, and spiritual needs. You will learn from this Level 1 End of Life Doula Class the three phases of end of life, the Shock Phase, the Stabilization Phase, and Transition Phase and interventions to help the patient move through these phases with support. You will also learn how to build a sacred space for the dying and their family. Included in the teaching is the most common medications that are used at end of life, as well as the top ten end of life disease processes and what to expect. We will discuss Advance Directives, creating a Doula Comfort Kit for your patient, and end of life planning. We will discuss what to do when your patient dies, as well as skills for healthy grieving. Included in this class is self care techniques for the caregiver and how to start your End of Life Doula Practice. Presented by homecare nurse Jennifer Hoit. Registration is required.
